Folding & inserting
Folder inserters, folders, sealers and openers for mail by the thousand
Stuffing envelopes by hand is the slowest job in any office. A folder inserter feeds the sheets, folds them, adds an insert or a reply envelope and seals the finished piece, at anywhere from 1,650 to 7,000 envelopes an hour depending on the model. The machines on these pages cover that whole range, plus the folders, pressure sealers, letter openers and tabbers that sit beside them.
We are an authorized FP Mailing Solutions dealer and an authorized full-service dealer for Martin Yale folders, and we carry Formax, Paitec, Postmark, Accufast and Postmatic equipment alongside. Every machine is quoted for your actual job, installed by our technician and backed by our service and supplies.

- Letters, invoices and statements a few hundred at a time: a desktop folder inserter such as the FPi 700 or FPi 2300.
- Daily mail plus regular runs in the thousands, with inserts and reply envelopes: FPi 2800 through FPi 5700.
- Variable-page statements that must reach exactly the right person, flats up to 10.5 by 13 inches, or more than 5,000 pieces an hour: the FPi 6130, 7140 and 8140 or the Formax FD 7700.
- Checks, pay stubs, grades and notices you would rather not put in an envelope at all: a pressure sealer and one-piece mailer forms.
- Folding only, no envelope: a Formax, Martin Yale or FP folder, from a hand-fed desktop unit to 20,100 sheets an hour.
- Incoming mail: a letter opener, from 400 envelopes a minute on a desk to 40,000 an hour in a mail center.
Software that tells the inserter what to do
FlexStream is FP's document automation software. It adds scancodes to the documents you print, so the inserter knows how many pages belong to each recipient, which inserts to add and when to divert a set. It also sorts and groups documents, adds text, graphics, logos and barcodes, corrects undeliverable addresses and lets you choose which documents to print and mail and which to send electronically.
It pairs with the FPi 5700, FPi 6700 and the production inserters. If your mail is invoices or statements with a variable page count, ask about it at the demonstration.
Questions we get asked
Do I need a folder inserter or a folding machine?
A folding machine only folds; you still stuff and seal envelopes yourself, so it suits brochures, menus, bulletins and newsletters. A folder inserter folds, inserts and seals in one pass, which is what you want for anything that goes in an envelope.
How many sheets can go in one envelope?
It depends on the model and the fold. The FPi 700 folds three sheets in a letter fold; the FPi 4500 through FPi 6700 fold up to ten sheets of 20 lb paper; the Formax FD 7700 folds eight at a time and inserts sets of up to 80 sheets into flats. Ask us for the FPi 2800 figure and we will confirm it against the current sheet from FP.
Can the machine handle stapled sets and mixed daily mail?
Most FP models have a daily-mail feed that takes a hand-fed stapled or loose set alongside the automatic feeders, and the production models run glossy, pre-folded, perforated and stapled media. Bring a sample of your worst job to the demonstration.
