Folding & inserting

Folding machines from Formax, Martin Yale and FP

A folding machine folds; it does not stuff envelopes. That makes it the right tool for brochures, menus, newsletters, church bulletins and anything that goes out flat or by hand, and for print shops finishing digital output. Speeds run from 2,200 sheets an hour on a hand-fed desktop unit to 20,100 on the automatic Formax models.

We carry three lines: FP's DF tabletop and air-suction folders, Formax FD document folders, and Martin Yale AutoFolders, for which we are an authorized full-service dealer. The models are grouped by maker below, smallest first within each group.

FP DF-1300Ac air-suction tabletop folder

FP Mailing Solutions

FP DF-1300Ac

Air-suction feeding for digitally printed stock, 310 sheets a minute.

Formax FD 322 document folder

Formax

Formax FD 322

The economical folder: drop-in feed and three pre-marked folds.

Variable speed runs up to 11,000 sheets an hour, and an extended outfeed conveyor lets most jobs run without unloading before the infeed is empty. Heavy-duty steel frame, made in the USA.

Which folder

  • A few sheets at a time, now and then: the hand-fed Martin Yale P6200.
  • Letter and legal stacks every day: Martin Yale 1611 or 1711, Formax FD 322 or FD 324.
  • Ledger paper, heavier stock, many jobs a day: Martin Yale 1812 or 2051, Formax FD 346.
  • Automatic setup and 20,000 an hour: Formax FD 382 or FD 38X, or FP's DF870c on a tabletop.
  • Coated or digitally printed stock that marks or double-feeds: the air-suction Formax FD 3300 or FP DF-1300Ac.

Add a paper jogger

Joggers line up a stack and shake the static out of it, which is the usual cause of double feeds and jams in folders, inserters, copiers and cutters. They also cool paper and dry toner before it goes from the printer into a folder. FP's Paper Jogger 400 is the tabletop standard: it jogs a ream of 8.5 by 11 or half a ream of 8.5 by 14 at a time and works out of the box.

Questions we get asked

Can a folding machine handle stapled sets?

Some can. The Martin Yale 1611 and 1711 take hand-fed sets of up to five sheets through a bypass, the P6200 accepts stapled sets, and the Formax FD 346 and FD 382 have an optional multi-sheet feeder for up to four sheets that is standard on the FD 38X.

My folder leaves marks on glossy prints. What do I do?

Switch to an air-suction feeder. The Formax FD 3300 and FP DF-1300Ac feed with air rather than friction rollers, which cuts static and feed marks on coated and digitally printed stock and lets you run heavier paper.
