Guillotine, die and card cutters

Four kinds of cutting, one page. A guillotine trims a stack of sheets to size. A card cutter turns a printed sheet into business cards or postcards with no setup. The Atlas-TRIO15 slits, cuts and creases in one pass. A die cutter or flatbed cuts any shape you can draw, for packaging, displays and labels.

Everything here is from Formax, and every one of them is a machine we install and service ourselves.

Formax Cut-True 29A electric guillotine paper cutter on its stand

Formax

Cut-True 29A electric guillotine

Programmable precision cutting for stacks up to 20.5 inches wide.

The Cut-True 29A offers precision cutting for paper stacks up to 20.5 inches wide. A touchscreen control panel programs and selects job settings, an automatically adjusting back gauge sets the cut, and up to 100 jobs of 100 cuts can be stored. An infrared safety curtain shuts the machine down if the light plane is interrupted.

Load a stack up to 3.15 inches high, set the back gauge on the touchscreen, and the bright LED cutting line shows exactly where the hardened steel blade will fall. Electronically controlled two-hand operation makes the cut. Accuracy is 0.1 mm on stacks up to 80 mm. An anti-friction table surface and optional wide side tables make large stock easier to move, and the included false clamp protects sensitive stock and perfect-bound books; remove it to shorten the minimum cut.

Cut-True 29H hydraulic guillotine

The 29A's controls with a hydraulic clamp and a foot-pedal pre-clamp.

The Cut-True 29H shares the 29A's 20.5-inch cut width, touchscreen, automatic back gauge, 100-job memory, infrared safety curtain, LED cutting line and two-hand operation. What it adds is hydraulic clamping: a foot pedal pre-clamps the stack so you can check the paper position, and clamp pressure adjusts to suit different paper weights and stack heights. An internal light illuminates the cutting area.

Safety features include a key lock, blade lock, external blade depth adjustment, automatic blade return from any position, a blade-change safety tool and a wooden paper push for alignment. It turns large sheets into brochures, invitations and more, and suits print shops and in-plant finishing departments.

Questions we get asked

Electric or hydraulic guillotine?

Both cut the same 20.5-inch width to the same 0.1 mm accuracy with the same controls. The 29H's hydraulic clamp adjusts its pressure to the stock and stack, and its foot-pedal pre-clamp lets you check position before the blade drops. Heavy or sensitive stock and long days favor the 29H.

What is a flatbed cutter for?

Cutting and creasing any shape from a printed sheet: cardboard packaging, protective cartons, synthetic point-of-sale items and kiss-cut adhesive labels, in light to medium runs. Because it makes single items on demand, it is also how you prototype packaging before a die is made.

Which ColorCut size?

Match the table to the sheets you print. The FB520 takes one 13 × 20 sheet, the FB700 two 12 × 18s, the FB900 four 12 × 18s, and the FB1060 four SRA3s or a B1 sheet. Fewer trips to the table is what buys productivity.
