Package lockers

Package lockers and inbound parcel tracking

Outbound mail has had machines for a century. Inbound packages mostly still land on a counter, get logged in a notebook if at all, and wait for someone to walk them to a desk or a dorm room. This section is the equipment that fixes that: smart lockers that hand packages over without staff, and tracking software that records every package from the moment it is scanned in to the moment it is signed for.

The two work together. FP Smart Lockers ship with their own cloud management software, and they integrate fully with TRAXsuite, FP's inbound parcel tracking platform, so a package can be delivered to a person, to a location or to a locker and show up in the same audit trail either way. Start with whichever problem is louder: pickup, or accountability.

What has changed about lockers

A parcel locker used to be a metal box with a key. Today's lockers have a touchscreen and a barcode scanner, and the software behind them notifies the recipient the moment a package is placed, so nobody has to keep checking whether something arrived. Access is by a code, a QR code or a tap on the notification from a phone, and every drop-off and pickup is recorded.

That is a security feature as much as a convenience: a package in a locker is not a package on a porch or a front desk. And because the banks are modular, a system can fit a cramped apartment lobby or a student union, grow by a module at a time, and take a custom vinyl wrap so it carries your branding or disappears into the wall.

Who puts them in

Anywhere people are concentrated and packages arrive for them. Offices, where deliveries used to pile up at reception. Colleges and universities, for student packages, library materials and shared equipment, with access outside office hours. Apartment and condominium buildings, where carriers deliver straight into the locker and residents are notified at once. Healthcare, for secure medication and supply handoff. The common thread is turning something a person used to manage into self-service.

Questions we get asked

Do I need the tracking software, or just the lockers?

FP Smart Lockers come with cloud-based management software and analytics of their own, so a locker bank works on its own. Add TRAXsuite when you want packages that never go into a locker, delivered to a desk, a department or a mail stop, tracked in the same system, or when you want asset tracking and letter notifications too.

Can the lockers go outside?

Yes. The modular systems are designed for indoor and outdoor installation, and temperature-controlled units are available for food or other perishable deliveries.

How does someone collect a package?

They get an email or text when it is placed. They can open the locker straight from that notification on their phone, with no app to download, or use the touchscreen with a code or QR code. The locker can be locked and unlocked as many times as needed during the session, so a door closed too early is not a lockout.

How many packages a day, who they are for, and where they wait now. We will size a locker bank or a tracking system to that, quote it, and install it.
