FP FPi folder inserters for the office and the mailroom

An FPi folder inserter takes the sheets from your printer, folds them, adds inserts or a reply envelope and delivers a sealed envelope. FP's line runs from the FPi 700, which sits on a desk and does 1,650 an hour, to the FPi 6700, which runs 4,300 an hour from seven feed stations. Every model is set up from a touchscreen and remembers its jobs.

The models below are in order of capacity. If you know your monthly volume and what goes in the envelope, you can narrow it to two in a minute. If not, call and we will.

FPi 700

The small-office inserter that fits on a desk.

While other work keeps you busy, the pile of letters and invoices waiting to go out gets bigger. The FPi 700 feeds, folds, inserts and seals them from three media feeders and an envelope hopper, and it is small enough to live on a desk.

It stores 15 jobs behind a touchscreen, processes over 39 different jobs including custom sizes, perforated and pre-folded paper and large envelopes, and can produce a three-panel brochure without inserting it into an envelope.

Key features

  • Three media feeders plus an envelope hopper, 100 pieces each
  • Folds: C, V, double-V and no fold

FPi 2800

FP's small-business inserter, and the machine that replaced the FPi 2700.

The FPi 2800 is the current small-business series inserter. Its feeders measure the thickness and the length of every sheet that goes through them, so the machine knows when two pages have stuck together and will not put the wrong documents in an envelope.

It collates and aligns a set before folding it, the trays take a wide range of paper types and sizes, and FP builds it in six configurations. If you are running an FPi 2700, this is what took its place.

Key features

  • Double document detection: measures the thickness and length of the media in every feeder
  • Accumulates and aligns documents before folding
  • Smart trays for a wide variety of paper types and sizes
  • Tray notifications and feeder linking
  • Full-color high-definition touchscreen
  • Six model configurations
  • Up to 2,500 envelopes an hour; folds up to 8 sheets

Fill & Start measures the envelope and document sizes and sets the machine; Real Sheet Control measures thickness to catch double feeds; a document collator aligns sets before folding. FP FPi 5130 folder inserter with its feeder tower, color touchscreen and side exit

FP Mailing Solutions

FPi 5130

A four-feeder tower and a straight paper path, up to 4,300 an hour.

The FPi 5130 uses the tower design of FP's production inserters: a four-feeder tower that can be set up for envelopes, sheets or inserts, with an optional high-capacity sheet feeder to add capacity and accumulation speed. A straight paper path keeps media flowing in one direction, even when feeding multiple sheets from the same tray.

The control panel plays on-screen videos that show how to load paper, inserts and envelopes. Optional 2D and 1D barcode and OMR reading assembles variable-page sets automatically and securely, without manual intervention.

Key features

  • Cycling speed up to 4,300 envelopes an hour
  • Customizable four-feeder tower
  • Envelopes up to 10.5 by 13 in.
  • Processes glossy, pre-folded, perforated and stapled media
  • Document Intelligence software
  • Optional 2D, 1D and OMR reading

FPi 6700

The high-volume workhorse: seven stations in, 1,500 envelopes out.

The FPi 6700 raises the bar for complicated mailroom processes. It is fully customizable, so you build the configuration that runs your business-critical mailings, and its matched feeder and exit capacities let the mailroom run continuously with little interaction.

Two high-capacity exits hold up to 1,500 finished envelopes. Everything the FPi 5700 does, the FPi 6700 does faster and with a seventh station.

Key features

  • Up to 4,300 envelopes an hour from up to 7 feed stations
  • Two high-capacity exits, 1,500 envelopes
  • Datamatrix, linear barcode, OMR and OCR reading
  • MaxiFeeder and knife fold up to 10 sheets

How the inserter knows what goes where

With optical mark recognition, the inserter reads coded marks printed on the documents to determine how many sheets, and in what sequence, belong to a single addressee. That is what makes multi-page invoices safe to run unattended. The FPi 5700 and 6700 also read 1D and 2D barcodes and printed characters, so the marks can come from your own system or from FlexStream.

Double-feed detection works by measuring. Real Sheet Control on the FPi 2300 and 4500 and the Secure n' Feed and Secure n' Sert detectors on the FPi 5700 and 6700 measure the actual thickness of what was fed, rather than relying on an optical sensor that colored or printed paper can fool.

From the inserter to the postage meter

The FPi 2300 and FPi 4500 series offer a side exit that delivers sealed envelopes to a postage meter. For higher volumes, ask us about pairing the inserter with a PostBase Fusion A120 or PostBase Pro DS, which feed and weigh the mail on their own. Ask us what the FPi 2800 supports; the interface it offers is not published on FP’s dealer page.

Questions we get asked

Which models read barcodes and OMR?

OMR is an option on the FPi 2325 and the FPi 4500 series. OMR plus 1D and 2D barcodes and OCR are standard on the FPi 5700 and FPi 6700. The FPi 5130 offers 2D, 1D and OMR reading as options. The FPi 2800 offers OMR and 1D and 2D barcode reading as options.

Can it run a stack of mixed daily mail?

Yes. The FPi 2300, 4500 and 5600 have a manual daily-mail feed for hand-fed sets, stapled or loose, of 5 to 10 sheets depending on the model, and the FPi 700, 5700 and 6700 process stapled sets.

What happens when a feeder runs out mid-job?

On the FPi 2300 and up, two stations loaded with the same document can be linked: when one empties the other takes over, and you refill the first without stopping. The FPi 2800 links feeders and tells you when a tray is running out.
