Production folder inserters: FPi 6130, 7140, 8140 and Formax FD 7700

These are the machines for a mailroom that runs every day: statements, invoices and notices in the tens of thousands a month, variable page counts, flats as well as letters. FP's FPi 6130, 7140 and 8140 share a straight paper path and a four-feeder tower you configure for sheets, inserts or envelopes. The Formax FD 7700 Series is a modular system that grows to eleven feeders and 7,000 envelopes an hour.

All four read 1D and 2D barcodes and OMR, so every set is assembled and verified without an operator counting pages. With FlexStream software the job is defined at the printer and carried through to the envelope. The FPi 5130, the entry point to the same tower design, is on the folder inserters page.

The FPi 6130 securely automates and customizes your jobs. Its straight paper path keeps media flowing in one direction, which gives exceptional processing even when feeding multiple sheets from the same tray. The four-feeder tower can be set up for envelopes, sheets or inserts, and up to four high-capacity sheet feeders of 1,000 sheets each can be added.

The control panel plays on-screen videos that walk the operator through loading paper, inserts and envelopes. 2D and 1D barcode and OMR options assemble sets automatically, and the machine matches documents and inserts across feed stations with a time and date stamp for each set.

The FPi 7140 is a breakthrough mailroom advancement for any business that processes mail. It has the same straight paper path and four-feeder tower as the FPi 6130, adds a high-capacity envelope feeder and up to eight feed stations, and cycles at 5,400 envelopes an hour into envelopes up to 10.5 by 13 inches.

Combined with FlexStream, every job gets the same integrity, and File-Based Processing gives the operator control at every point in the folding and inserting process. High-capacity sheet feeders, a powered vertical exit stacker and a powered height-adjustable table complete the machine.

Formax FD 7700 Series

Modular to eleven feeders and 7,000 envelopes an hour.

The Formax 7700 Series meets the demands of nearly every mailing application, from direct mail campaigns to mailings containing personal and private information. It is customizable from the base up: five tower feeder-folders, intelligent and non-intelligent high-capacity insert feeders and in-line feeder-folders combine into as many as eleven feeders.

It folds up to 8 sheets at a time and processes up to 7,000 envelopes an hour and 300,000 pieces a month. For flats it inserts sets of up to 80 sheets or 10 mm thick with the Thick Set license, and the top-loading hopper holds 800 #10 envelopes or 500 10 by 13 flats. A 22-inch color touchscreen shows the time to job completion and stores unlimited jobs.

FlexStream and file-based processing

FlexStream is FP's document automation software. It adds scancodes for variable-page processing, document integrity and verification; gives access to USPS automation postage rates; corrects undeliverable-as-addressed mail; organizes, sorts and groups documents electronically before printing; and adds variable and static text, graphics, logos, QR codes and barcodes. It also lets you decide which documents to print and mail and which to send electronically.

File-Based Processing, an option on the FPi 6130, 7140 and 8140, takes that further: the inserter works from the job file itself, so the operator has control at every point in the folding and inserting process.

Add-ons for the FPi tower inserters

  • High-capacity sheet feeders: two or four, 1,000 sheets each.
  • Powered vertical exit stacker: 500 finished envelopes, unloaded on the fly.
  • Horizontal belt stacker: in line or at a right angle, and two can run at once to separate flats from letters.
  • Powered height-adjustable table: adjusts at the touch of a button and gives the machine a stable base.
  • Flats sealer, envelope marker and exit transport.

Questions we get asked

Do I need FlexStream to run one of these?

Not to run the machine. You need it when the job has to be verified: variable page counts, matched inserts, or mail that must reach exactly the right person. FlexStream adds the scancodes at print time and the inserter reads them.

Can it insert into flats?

Yes. The FPi 6130, 7140 and 8140 insert into envelopes up to 10.5 by 13 inches, and the FD 7700 inserts into landscape flats up to 10 by 13 inches with sets of up to 80 sheets.
