Address printers and inkjet envelope printers

An address printer replaces labels. It prints the address, attention line, return address, postal barcode or permit indicia straight onto the envelope, at speeds no one can label by hand, and the Intelligent Mail barcode it prints is what qualifies a mailing for lower postage and faster delivery.

The desktop AJ series and Ji series handle addresses and logos in inkjet. The EDGE, EDGE Pro and ColorMax9 go further and print full-color artwork edge to edge. The IB-9000 is the in-line unit for a production base.

FP MaestroJet high-speed colour envelope printing system

FP Mailing Solutions

MaestroJet

Up to 10,000 envelopes an hour, in full colour, with one person on it.

FP's high-speed colour printing system, built on the HP FI-1000 print engine. One operator can run up to 10,000 envelopes an hour, and the pigment ink is UV and water resistant, so an address does not fade on a window sill or run in the rain.

It prints full-page bleeds up to 11.5 inches wide in CMYK, and it stores repeat jobs on the printer so the monthly run starts in seconds rather than being set up again.

Key features

  • Up to 10,000 envelopes per hour with a single operator
  • HP FI-1000 print engine
  • UV and water-resistant HP pigment ink
  • Full-page bleeds up to 11.5 in. wide, CMYK
  • Repeat jobs saved on the printer for instant recall
FP EDGE Pro full-color envelope printer with envelopes loaded in its feeder

FP Mailing Solutions

EDGE Pro

Full-bleed color on envelopes, flats, cartons and padded mailers.

EDGE Pro is the current generation of the EDGE Print Series. A wider, flatter, unobstructed paper path lets it print full-bleed, full-color mailing and packaging pieces, not just envelopes: stuffed envelopes, 10 × 13 flats, chipboard, corrugated cardboard, cartons and padded envelopes up to 3/8 inch thick, with a class-leading low cost per piece.

The Memjet print head has 70,400 nozzles and no moving parts, which means higher speed, lower ink and maintenance costs and less noise. A 7-inch color touchscreen previews the image, shows system status and reaches common settings, and stored jobs hold up to 60 GB. The top-loading feeder takes up to 575 #10 envelopes and media up to 10.5 × 17 inches.

Key features

  • Full CMYK color, up to 16.8 million colors

The system pairs the printer with a high-capacity intelligent belt feeder for accuracy, especially in landscape mode. Options include a 3-foot conveyor, a dedicated command station with PC and 32-inch curved monitor, and a sturdy workbench.

HP print technology with pigment-based ink resists fading, scratches and water. A wide print area and digital thickness control take media up to half an inch thick and 15 inches wide, and the 7-inch touchscreen controls the whole process, from image preview to up to 64 GB of stored jobs.

Questions we get asked

Which model do I need?

Start with volume and thickness. For addresses and logos on ordinary envelopes, the AJ-140 or 400Ji covers 22,000 pieces an hour; the AJ-160 or 600Ji reaches 30,000 with a conveyor and feeder; the AJ-180 or 800Ji sits in line with a folder inserter at 34,000. If you need full-color artwork rather than a black address, look at the EDGE Pro or ColorMax9.

Can these print in color?

The AJ and Ji printers use HP inkjet cartridges for sharp addresses, barcodes and logos. The EDGE, EDGE Pro and ColorMax9 print full process color, edge to edge, on envelopes and heavier stock.

How thick can the media be?

Up to a quarter inch on the AJ-140 and 400Ji, 3/8 inch on the AJ-160, 600Ji and EDGE Pro, half an inch on the AJ-180, 800Ji and ColorMax9, and 1.25 inches on the IB-9000. Padded envelopes and corrugated cardboard are within range on the thicker-media models.
